Bridging Communities: A Riverside Celebration

High Falls Terrace Park and on the Pont de Rennes Bridge, Rochester, NY 14614

Organized by the Genesee River Alliance and Genesee Land Trust, a FREE summer celebration to engage with and build connections among residents in the Edgerton and El Camino neighborhoods occurred. Free lunches, family-friendly activities, and performances to celebrate the Genesee River and share the future of High Falls State Park were provided. Monroe County Sustainability and Solid Waste Groups were present to provide information and engage the community. ​​

Healthy Pots, Healthy Homes 

Foodlink Farm, 585 Lexington Ave, Rochester, NY 14613

Monroe County Sustainability Group tabled at this free community event that aimed to advance understanding of lead in soil, food, and other  products. Community members brought old pots and pans to exchange for safer cookware while learning about lead exposure in cookware and toxins in soil. According to guidance from the USFDA, some commonly used imported aluminum or brass cookware, including certain caldero-style pots, may leach lead into food during cooking. The event also featured food trucks for lunch, $10 curbside market vouchers (while supplies last; SNAP/WIC accepted), live cooking demonstrations with a nutrition educator, tips on safe cooking practices, identifying lead risks, and reducing soil contamination, and FREE resources and education for the whole community.

Rochester Eco-fair, Westside Farmer's Market 

St. Monica Church- parking lot, 831 Genesee St, Rochester, NY 14619

Color Rochester Green organized over 20 vendors that filled the parking lot of St. Monica Church, including Monroe County's Sustainability Group. Madison Quinn was there to answer questions and have engaging conversations on climate vulnerabilities, resilience, and more!​

Madison Quinn and Nate Jones of Monroe County's Sustainability Group joined Monroe County Solid Waste Division to engage with the community at the 2026 Rochester Lilac Festival. Attendees chatted about the County's climate action, adaptation, and resiliency efforts and learned how to "recycle right" in Monroe County!​

Madison Quinn, Monroe County's Sustainability Coordinator, spoke at the Sunday Forum of the Downtown United Presbyterian Church, providing an update on environmental sustainability projects and programs underway for climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resiliency.   ​​

In collaboration with Color Westside Green, Madison Quinn and Nate Jones of Monroe County's Sustainability Department provided a presentation and lead provocative discussions on the CAP, CARP, and other sustainability initiatives by the County. This meeting provided residents an opportunity to engage with impassioned professionals and fellow residents taking part in climate action.

Monroe County Legislator Jackie Smith and the Brockport Farmers Market hosted a special Monroe County Day—bringing county departments and community organizations together for a morning of fresh produce, helpful resources, and local connections.

The Dept. of Environmental Services (DES) was one of multiple county departments at this event raising awareness to "Recycle Right," what to bring to the Ecopark, the Climate Action Plan, and the upcoming Climate Adaptation & Resiliency Plan! ​

Rochester EV Show for National Drive Electric Month

Monroe County Dept. of Environmental Services (DES) tabled and  brought our new EV Chevy Equinox to the Car Show, where we informed the public about Monroe County's Climate Action Plan, Ecopark/Recycling, the upcoming Climate Adaptation & Resiliency Plan and our plans to "green our fleet"! It served as an excellent opportunity to speak with other EV owners, vendors, and community organizations and learn about the federal EV incentives before they expire.​​
